Senior Structural Technician

Rothwells are a Structural Engineering consultancy who have been operating in Jersey for the past 50 years. We undertake a diverse and exciting range of Structural Engineering projects within the Island for Clients in the domestic, commercial, infrastructure and public sectors.

We are currently looking for a Senior Structural Technician to expand our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Requirements:

• Candidates will have completed an HNC or HND in a relevant construction or Engineer Discipline.
• Experience of drafting with AutoCAD and Revit, including significant RC detailing experience.
• 5 years relevant experience in an engineering drawing office.
• Excellent communication skills to coordinate with external consultants and internal colleagues.

Core Duties:

• Produce and supervise the production of structural drawings, models, sketches, schedules and specifications.
• Supervise and review amendments to the company drawing standard policy.
• Ensure that all drawings produced are in line with company drawing standards.
• Liaise with other internal and external Design Team members as required to provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging project problems/deficiencies.
• Interpret technical reports produced by others.
• Contribute to Designers Risk Assessments carried out by other members of the internal design team in accordance with the Management in Construction (Jersey) 2016 regulations.
• Produce basic structural calculations to approved design standards, suitable for sign off under the Structural Engineers Register Jersey (SERJ) scheme.
• Visits to site to carry out surveys and inspections as required.
• Contribute to the appraisal of drafting/modelling software.
• Attend project and site meetings as required.
• Assess project briefs and produce written fee proposals/tender submissions for small works projects.
• Manage and carry out drawing issues.
• Mentor junior colleagues in drawing/detailing best practice.

Trainee Structural Technician

We are currently looking for a Trainee Structural Technician / Office Junior to join our team.

Requirements:
• 5 GCSE Grade C or above to include Mathematics, Science & English.
• ‘A’ levels (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Physics or other Engineering related Disciplines would be advantageous.
• Residential status ‘Entitled’ or ‘Entitled to Work’.

Core Duties:
• Learn the skills necessary to use AutoCAD to produce drawings suitable for use within an Engineering/Construction environment.
• Assist Engineers and Technicians in undertaking site surveys, site monitoring and other site work as required.
• Assist in day to day, general office administration.
• Undertake accurate printing, reproduction and issuing of drawings, calculations and documents.
• Filing and archiving.

After a successful probationary period, opportunities to attend day release courses in Engineering/Construction at Highlands College will be available.

Further career progression would lead to achieving TechEng status through The Institution of Structural Engineers.

Senior Structural Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team.

Requirements:
• Candidates will ideally be recently Chartered, or near Chartered, Members with the Institute of Structural Engineers.
• Minimum five years’ experience in the Civil or Structural Engineering industry.
• Experience of drafting with AutoCAD and Revit would be advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills in IT, verbal and written forms.
• Residency Not Required

Core Duties:
• Manage, design, develop, create and maintain construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner.
• Liaise with other Design Team members and Clients as required.
• Attend meetings and visit sites as required.
• Produce and supervise the production of factual and interpretive technical reports and feasibility studies.
• Produce and supervise the production of structural calculations to approved design standards, suitable for signoff under The Institution of Structural Engineers Register Jersey (SERJ) scheme.
• Organise the production of structural drawings, models, sketches and specifications.
• Carry out and supervise Designers Risk Assessments in accordance with the Management in Construction (Jersey) 2016 regulations.
• Monitor the financial status of projects from inception to completion.

Graduate Structural Engineer

We are currently looking for a Graduate Structural Engineer to join our team.

Requirements:
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (preferably) or an Engineering related discipline.
• Previous experience in Civil or Structural Engineering is not necessary but would advantageous.
• A sound grasp of Engineering mathematics.
• Experience of drafting with AutoCAD and Revit would be advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills in IT, verbal and written forms.
• Residential status ‘Entitled’ or ‘Entitled to Work’.

Initially you will be required to:
• Learn to navigate design codes and standards.
• Undertake design calculations for individual members under the supervision of a Director or Senior Engineer.
• Assist technical staff in the preparation of contract drawings based on your designs.

On the job training will be provided to help you maximise your potential and you will quickly progress to undertake more complex tasks including:
• Analysis of structural arrangements.
• Preparing written reports and design summaries.
• Checking of drawings and calculations prepared by others.
• Attend site (as required).
• Liaise with other internal and external design team members to develop designs in accordance with proposed schemes.

A structured path culminating in achieving Chartered, or Incorporated, Engineer status with The Institution of Structural Engineers will be provided. The right candidate will be ambitious, neatly presented and punctual with excellent self-management skills.
