John joined Rothwells in 1990, following 9 years working for Ove Arup & Partners in London, Qatar and Papua New Guinea. John became a Partner in 2000. John has nearly 40 years experience on a variety of building and civil engineering projects. These range from small refurbishments to large new commercial developments. John is an approved certifier under the local SER-J scheme.

Leigh Turpin
BEng (Hons), CEng MIStructE
Senior Engineer

Leigh joined Rothwells in 2008 and gained his Chartered Status in 2016. Prior to joining Rothwells he worked as a CAD technician for a local developer for eighteen months. Leigh has experience on a variety of structural and civil engineering projects, ranging from small refurbishments to significant infrastructure projects and large new developments.

Rob O’Brien
MEng (Hons), MA (Cantab), CEng MIStructE
Senior Engineer

Rob joined Rothwells in 2009, following a series of summer placements and gained his Chartered Status in 2015. Rob is a Senior Engineer with a keen interest in 3D modelling and regularly develops structural models to aid in analysis of complex structural arrangements. Rob is an approved certifier under the local SER-J scheme.

Shaun Owen
HNC Construction Technology
Senior CAD Technician

Shaun joined Rothwells in 2022 as a Senior CAD technician having over 20 years experience working on a variety of Structural Engineering projects. Shaun is an experience CAD and Revit Operator specialising in reinforced concrete detailing.

Greg Thelland
BEng (Hons)
Graduate Engineer

Greg joined Rothwells in 2015, following completion of his Engineering degree at The University of Cardiff. Greg is a Graduate member of the Institute of Structural Engineers and is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Matthew Wagstaff
CAD Technician

Matthew joined Rothwells in 2022 as a trainee CAD technician having previously worked as a land surveyor.   He has quickly translated his surveying skills into the production of structural drawings and is working with Revit.  Matthew has progressed to a CAD Technician and is pursuing his TechEng qualification with the Institute of Structural Engineers.

George Thomas
Junior CAD Technician

George joined Rothwells in 2016, after spending two years studying Ship Science with Navel Engineering at the University of Southampton. George is currently studying his first year of HNC in Construction. George is a Junior CAD Technician gaining experience in drafting and detailing roles. George has recently completed a 5-year part-time degree in Civil Engineering with London South Bank University and is pursuing his IEng qualification with the Institute of Structural Engineers.

Sam Nisbet
Trainee Structural Engineer

Sam is part-way through a full time MEng (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Bath and joins Rothwells on our University Bursary scheme, working with us during the University summer holidays.  At the end of his degree Sam will join us in a full-time capacity as a Graduate Engineer.

Sharon MacLachlan
Office Manager

Sharon joined Rothwells in 2010 and is responsible for company administration, Client liaison, staffing and accounts.
